The in Crowd: Sixties Movers 'N' Shakers

For many people, the Sixties was and remains the music decade an era when pop reflected the rapidly changing times and, in doing so, entered public consciousness. Yet, though pop was part of the fabric of everyday life by the end of the decade, largely due to the Beatles, certain styles of music had started off as almost exclusive. Mods, members of that sharp-suited youth cult beloved by the Who, were connoisseurs of danceable black music, and Dobie Gray's 'The 'In' Crowd' encapsulated their view in both its title and lyrics.
