This first release is a journey through the unique sound of Africa, mixing ancestral spirit and contemporary culture, traditionnal legacy and urban groove. A fresh selection of 21st-century african, caribbean and afro-american music from the continent and its diaspora, mixing voodoo, afrobeat, mandinka, touareg and gnawa music with styles such as soul, blues, funk, jazz, slam, hip-hop and electronic beats. Including artists living in and originating from France, Togo, Canada, Guinea, Burkina-Faso, Cameroon, Tunisia, Niger, Algeria, Mali, Morocco, Senegal and Ethiopia, Afrosoul #1 is a loving elegia to the culture of the first continent, looted and tear-down by four hundred years of slavery and colonialism. Celebrating the memory and spirit of black presidents Fela Kuti (1938 - 1997) and Thomas Sankara (1949 - 1987), it's also a manifesto for the dream of a free, peaceful and united Africa.
